Global Food Crisis Mr D.R. Kaarthikeyan

A farmer by birth from a village near Coimbatore in the State of Tamilnadu, India. He is a Graduate in Bachelor of Science (Chemistry and Agriculture). He is also a Bachelor of Law. Practiced as Lawyer for three years. Later got selected and appointed to the elite Indian Police Service. In that capacity held several positions including District Superintendent of Police of large problematic districts, like Gulbarga, Dharwar and Belgaum, major Districts of Karnataka State in India. He was also Director of Police Academy, Mysore, Karnataka. He was Chief of Intelligence and Security of Karnataka State. He was DIG of Railway Police. Later in the Ministry of Commerce in the Government of India, functioned as Director of Trade Promotion in Australia with headquarters in Sydney. On deputation in the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, functioned as Diplomat and Head of Chancery and Consular Department of the Embassy of India in Moscow (then USSR). He held challenging positions like Chief of Investigation of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case; Director-General of Central Reserve Police Force, the largest para-military force in India and perhaps in the entire World; Director of the prestigious Central Bureau of Investigation of India; and Director-General in the National Human Rights Commission.

India's Energy Security Dr Maria Ligia Noronha

Dr Noronha is a Senior Fellow of The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI), India, and Director of the Resources & Global Security Department. She has an M.A. in Economics from the University of Bombay, and an M.Sc in Sea Use Law, Economics, and Policy, and a PhD from the London School of Economics. Her work at TERI includes research into energy security, minerals development, sustainable tourism, coastal area management, and issues relating to climate change. She has co-ordinated and worked on a large number of research projects. Globally, she is associated with the Mining and Energy Research Network, UK, and was on the Global Assurance Group of the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) project of the IIED. She was involved with the Population Consumption and Environment Network, She is on several scientifc review panels and on the international Editorial Boards of Ecohealth and Experimental Agriculture.
