Thuy-Hang Duong's vision for fairer global trade earns top recognition at Raisina-IE Global Student Challenge

Our PhD scholar, Thuy-Hang Duong, recently participated in the 2025 Raisina-IE Global Student Challenge as part of the Raisina Dialogue 2025, held in New Delhi, India. This event marked a decade of global conversations on geoeconomics and geopolitics, bringing together world leaders, changemakers, and emerging leaders like Hang to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
As part of the Challenge, Hang joined a team of students from 60 leading Schools of Government and Global Affairs from across eight regions. Together, they worked on actionable solutions to tackle issues such as multilateralism and the digital divide, all aimed at bridging the Global North-South Divide.
Hang’s team focused on proposing reforms to Multilateral Frameworks, culminating in the development of the “Global Gateway Trade Initiative.”
As Hang explained, "Our proposal sought to create a coalition of 41 nations, led by the EU in collaboration with 14 resource-rich countries from the Global South, to establish fairer, more sustainable trade agreements that would reduce economic disparities while promoting climate action."
Their efforts earned the team second place in the challenge, receiving recognition from a distinguished panel of judges, including Tony Abbott, Former Prime Minister of Australia; Mohamed Nasheed, Former President of Maldives; Priyanka Chaturvedi, Member of the Indian Parliament and Sarah Mosoetsa, CEO of the Human Sciences Research Council.
We are extremely proud of Hang’s contribution to this prestigious challenge and her thoughtful work in advancing global discussions on multilateralism and sustainable development.
She extends her gratitude to her project academic advisor, Professor Germán Ríos Méndez, her teammates, her PhD supervisor Distinguished Professor Renee Fry-McKibbin, and the academics at the Crawford School of Public Policy for supporting her throughout this opportunity.
Congratulations to Hang and her team on their success!
