Associate Professor Bec Colvin appointed to ACT Climate Change Council

The ACT Climate Change Council has appointed Associate Professor Bec Colvin as a General Member. Colvin is a social scientist with the Resources, Environment and Development Department at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, and a member of the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS).
The ACT Climate Change Council advises the Territory's Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, and adapting to climate change.
The Hon. Suzanne Orr, Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water, says the "new and diverse Climate Change Council seeks to better represent every corner of the Canberra community. The Council will play an important role in helping to shape the new ACT Climate Change Strategy, with a focus on changing and improving the way we reduce emissions and prepare and adapt for the impacts of climate change."
Colvin says her background in social science directs her "to think about how the oftentimes nebulous 'everything'-issue that is climate change connects with people’s daily lives. The new Council is exceptionally well placed to consider the intersection between human well-being and flourishing and meaningful climate action."
"It’s a rare privilege to be afforded the opportunity to participate in discussions of such importance to the ACT and beyond. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the ACT Climate Change Council and the people of the ACT to contribute to solutions on the important challenge of climate change," she says.
Colvin joins her ANU College of Law, Policy and Governance and ICEDS colleague on the Council, Dr Arnagretta Hunter, who has been appointed Council Chair.
