TTPI Seminar Series
We use linked employee-employer data to study the causal effect of location on earnings in Australia. We assess the importance of worker skills, differences in pay premia across local employers, and industry structure in explaining regional wage inequality. We estimate how locational earnings premia have evolved through time and examine trends in the spatial sorting of workers and firms. This work is at an early stage, and replicates the approach of Card et al (2025) in Location, Location, Location.
Josiah Hickson is a first-year PhD student and Sir Roland Wilson Scholar at the Tax and Transfers Policy Institute. His thesis will focus on determinants of regional inequality in the Australian labour market. Josiah has broad experience in studying the Australian labour market, and his research is supported by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
