The Mini Indonesia Update brings leading experts to Melbourne for insights into Indonesia’s political and economic landscape and this year’s theme, Islamic diversity in Indonesia.

About the Mini Indonesia Update - Monash University

The Mini Indonesia Update brings key speakers and insights from the ANU Indonesia Project’s annual Indonesia Update conference to Melbourne. Held each September at the Australian National University, the Indonesia Update is the largest annual conference on Indonesian society outside Indonesia, providing an authoritative assessment of key political and economic developments before exploring a major theme shaping contemporary Indonesia.

This year, we are delighted to bring the Mini Indonesia Update to Monash University, the home institution of 2026 Indonesia Update co-convenor Professor Julian Millie. The Melbourne program will feature perspectives from the Political and Economic Updates alongside this year’s conference theme, Islamic diversity in Indonesia.

Hosted by Monash University in partnership with the ANU Indonesia Project, the event will feature a series of short presentations followed by an extended panel discussion and audience Q&A, offering a timely opportunity to explore some of the key issues shaping Indonesia today.
