About the Book - Pursuing Inclusive Economic Development in Asia. A celebration of Peter McCawley

Ensuring that everyone benefits from economic development is a crucial policy objective. Even more, inclusion must become a central concern as economies grow to middle-income status and strive for even more prosperity. Persistent and large socioeconomic gaps disrupt social harmony and undermine democracy, which could eventually compromise economic progress. Former ADBI Dean, ADB Executive Director, and Australian National University fellow Peter McCawley spent his career on this topic. This book commemorates Peter’s life and legacy.

Pursuing Inclusive Economic Development in Asia presents 13 chapters on various aspects of inclusive economic growth. Some chapters investigate the role of globalization and foreign direct investment, and several evaluate the impact of public policies. The volume features studies from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam, as well as studies with a regional focus. Researchers and policymakers will find insights, lessons, and cautionary tales related to inclusion and economic growth in the region.
