Three Essays on Agriculture, Migration, and Child Welfare in Bangladesh

This thesis explores three key issues in the development economics of Bangladesh. The first paper examines the impact of rice prices on child labour, finding no effect on incidence but a positive link with hours worked, especially among poorer households. The second paper shows that rising jute prices reduce household migration, while rice prices have no such effect. The third paper finds that remittances negatively affect children's grade progression, particularly in poorer or disaster-affected households. Using nationally representative data from 2011, 2015, and 2018, the thesis highlights how crop prices and remittances shape household welfare and human capital investment.
