Professor Jeffrey Sachs from Columbia University will discuss the US–Iran conflict and its socio-economic and political consequences for Asia and the Pacific.
The Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University is pleased to host Professor Jeffrey Sachs as part of its flagship Public Policy Frontiers Series. This seminar will examine the far-reaching implications of the US-Iran conflict for the Asia-Pacific region.
Professor Sachs, a world-renowned economist and policy advisor, will analyse how escalating tensions between the United States and Iran has affected energy security, trade routes, financial systems, and geopolitical stability across Asia and the Pacific. The talk will explore the conflict’s impact on oil markets, supply chain disruptions, inflationary pressures, and shifting strategic alliances, with particular focus on key players in the regions including Australia. Participants will gain insights into both immediate socio-economic costs and longer-term political realignments that may reshape the regional order with implications for Australia.
This event continues the Public Policy Frontiers Series’ commitment to fostering bold, interdisciplinary dialogue on pressing global challenges. It provides a vital platform for policymakers, scholars, diplomats, and students to engage with critical questions shaping the future of the Asia-Pacific.
