Australia is embarking to put a price on carbon, with the basic model decided but design and ambition yet to be determined. Current policy development follows a failed attempt at introducing emissions trading, and takes place in the context of tight fiscal constraints but strong economic growth prospects. Meanwhile, climate policy action is going ahead in key countries but without a binding international agreement.

As part of the Environment and Economics 2011 conference, we will bring together leading economists, policy analysts and practitioners to discuss the choices that Australia faces in designing and implementing climate policy in 2011 and beyond.

Speakers include: Will Steffen, Frank Jotzo, Steve Hatfield-Dodds, Warwick McKibbin, John Quiggin, Ross Garnaut, Andrew MacIntosh, Richard Dennis, Iain MacGill, Lorraine Stephenson, David Victor, Mark-C Lewis, Cameron Hepburn, Erwin Jackson, Harry Clarke, Peter J Wood, Anita Talberg, Andrew Leigh, John Hewson, Lenore Taylor, Howard Bamsey
