The 2013 Pacific and PNG Update provides a forum for the discussion of the latest economic, social and political developments in the region. The Update is hosted by the Development Policy Centre, and supported by: the Asian Development Bank’s Pacific Economic Management Technical Assistance Project, and the Asia and Pacific Policy Studies, the flagship publication of the Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU, in partnership with Australian Aid, AusAID.
The updates are designed to bring together leading thinkers and policy makers from the Pacific and Papua New Guinea to discuss important topics such as regional trade and integration, employment and labor mobility, and service delivery, resource management and gender-based violence.
The 2013 Pacific Update consisted of two days of panel discussions: day one on the Pacific; and day two on Papua New Guinea.
Day one started with a regional overview of the Pacific, with the pre-launch of the July 2013 issue of the Pacific Economic Monitor, followed by economic updates of Melanesia, small island states and Timor Leste. After lunch, it continued with the regional trade and integration, labour mobility and linkages panel, the Pacific gender update and wrap up with the public management and private sector development session.
This public forum was presented by the Development Policy Centre at Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University, and supported by the Asian Development Bank’s Pacific Economic Management Technical Assistance and the Asia and the Pacific Policy Studies Society, the flagship journal of the Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU.
