Agricultural policies play a crucial role in shaping socio-economic development outcomes for transitional economies since agriculture involves a good share of the population, especially the poor. These policies are especially interesting in the case of Vietnam – a country that has transformed from a command into a market economy but maintained the socialist orientation.
In this seminar, Dr. Hoa Nguyen will present results from her recently co-authored papers on Vietnam’s main changes in agricultural policies. She will discuss how the policies have affected farm productivity and social outcomes and how the tension between enhancing economic efficiency and keeping social equity in check has influenced these policies’ formulation.
