The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in reversals to human capital gains that are unprecedented. This presentation, which focuses on the East Asia and Pacific region, describes preliminary evidence of worsening health and education outcomes, increases in food insecurity, and impacts that COVID has had on employment. Some of these shocks may cause permanent damage to a large cohort of the population and will require explicit and specific policies to address them. The presentation will end with potential critical short and medium term policy responses to repair damage to human capital.

Speaker

Dr Daniel Dulitzky is Regional Director for Human Development in the East Asia and Pacific Region of the World Bank. He is responsible for overseeing the World Bank program in Health, Education, and Social Protection and Jobs in East Asia and the Pacific.

Registration is required to attend the seminar. You can attend at the Lennox Room (JG Crawford School of Public Policy, 132, Lennox Crossing, Acton, ACT 2601), or online via Zoom.

This seminar is free and open to the public. It will be recorded, and the recording will be available after the event on the Development Policy Centre website.
