The purpose of copyright is to promote the sciences and useful arts by giving authors exclusive rights in their works. It is an incentive mechanism. But how much of an incentive does it offer? In this seminar I present data from the Australian film industry that throws this question into stark relief. I explore possible explanations for the data, as well as possible implications.
