The Great Recession has become an ‘occasion for sense-making’ for both economics and management as activist fields of study. In this context, it’s convenient to re-engage perennial debates about public management as a field of study. The seminar will develop an argument that this field should reclaim its traditions and competences in developing usable knowledge about the design of interventions and socially complex artifacts for the output side of government.
