The global deployment and rapid cost declines of renewable energy sources may have facilitated climate change negotiations, by showing governments that reducing carbon emissions may not be as costly as previously thought.

In turn, the Paris agreement and the many initiatives seen at COP 21 will further incite governments, mayors, investors, communities and the industry to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewables.

Under what conditions can this transition be fast enough to significantly reduce the threat of climate change, while ensuring energy access and security?

About the Speaker

Cédric Philibert is a senior expert on renewable energies at the International Energy Agency (IEA). He has authored or co-authored numerous publications on climate change policies and renewable energy technologies.

Cédric’s presentation will be introduced by Dr Manuel Blanco, Director of the Australian Solar Thermal Research Initiative, and followed by a Q&A session.

The event will be followed by drinks and light refreshments and is free and open to the public. Registration via Eventbrite.com.au is essential.

This event is hosted by the ANU Energy Change Institue and the Australian Solar Thermal Research Initiative.
