Professor Schoen will present on the new trends in company tax reform in Europe and the United Kingdom, in the context of the OECD Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Project and various new conceptual approaches for redesign of company tax for the future.

John Hewson will be chairing the event with commentary from the Australian Treasury.

Professor Wolfgang Schoen is the Director of the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance, Munich, Germany and has published extensively on international and business taxation. He has been a Visiting Professor at New York University and Columbia University and in 2011 gave the Ross Parsons Address at the University of Sydney.

Professor Schoen studied law, business, and economics at the University of Bonn and obtained his doctorate in 1985 and habilitation in 1992. He was a tax researcher at the Institute for Tax Law of the University of Bonn and was Full Professor at the University of Bielefeld where he was Co-Director of the Institute for German, European, and International Commercial Law 1992 – 1996. He became Full Professor at the University of Bonn, Director of the Institute for Tax Law and Co-Director of the Center for European Commercial Law from 1996 – 2002. Professor Schoen became Director at the Max Planck Society in 2002. He was Vice President of the Max Planck Society from 2008 to 2014 and since then has been Vice President of the German Research Foundation (DFG). Professor Schoen is participating in a joint research project with leading UK and US researchers on the future of company tax.
