ANU excited to welcome Professor Glyn Davis

25 September 2018

The Australian National University (ANU) is thrilled to announce Professor Glyn Davis AC will join the Crawford School of Public Policy as a Distinguished Professor following his successful tenure as Vice-Chancellor at The University of Melbourne.

ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt AC said Professor Davis will be an outstanding asset to the ANU, particularly in the University’s role in helping shape and inform public policy.

“Glyn Davis is rightly renowned as one of Australia’s finest higher education leaders. He has led the University of Melbourne with distinction, while always making a substantive contribution to wider public debate,” said Professor Schmidt.

“ANU is honoured that Glyn, one of our esteemed alumni, has chosen to join the Crawford School. We all look forward to welcoming him back,’ Professor Schmidt said.

Director of the Crawford School, Professor Helen Sullivan, said Professor Davis will contribute to the full range of ANU research, teaching, engagement and outreach activities.

“Professor Davis is among Australia’s most influential public policy scholars, whose academic work has shaped the thinking of public servants at all levels of government,” Professor Sullivan said.

“His planned program of work on leadership and public service ethics is very timely given the challenges of contemporary governance and the loss of public trust in our institutions.”

Professor Davis has been Vice-Chancellor of The University of Melbourne since 2005. Before his long career in public policy academics, which also included being Vice-Chancellor of Griffith University, Professor Davis completed his PhD at ANU.

Professor Davis’s appointment at the Crawford School is supported by the Australian and New Zealand School of Government. His work at ANU will include teaching senior public service executives from all over the world.

He will also begin writing about political leadership, and will be collaborating universities in the UK and Europe.
