ANU Public Policy Week 2014 features two distinct events designed to bring the best policy thinking together: ANU Policy Outlook 2014, and a special Asia and the Pacific Policy Society conference on ‘Confronting the Pacific’s health challenges’.

Four key events from ANU Public Policy Week will be streamed live online next week.

The four events include two ‘Lunchbox debates’: one on tertiary education (1pm Monday) and the other on creating a resilient tax system (1pm Tuesday). On Monday evening at 5.30pm Hugh White’s keynote address on ‘Defence policy: what’s wrong and how to fix it’ will be shown and on Tuesday at 5.30pm it’s the turn of Dr Ken Henry AC who will discuss ‘Public policy resilience and the reform narrative’. All events will be available to view at http://canberralive.act.gov.au/

The first event of Policy Week is the ‘Lunchbox debate’ on the tertiary education sector on Monday lunchtime featuring Crawford School’s Professor Bruce Chapman and Professor Glenn Withers as well as the Editor of The Australian’s Higher Education section Julie Hare and former Group of Eight President John Niland. In the evening on Monday, discussion will turn to defence policy with a keynote address from ANU Public Policy Fellow Professor Hugh White AO. This event will also see the launch of the latest issue of Crawford School’s quarterly public policy magazine, Advance. On Tuesday the Lunchbox Debate will look at how to create a resilient tax system for the future. The debate – chaired by Crawford School’s Director of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute Professor Miranda Stewart – will feature Commissioner of Taxation Chris Jordan AO, Paul Abbey from PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kerrie Sadiq from QUT and Richard Denniss of the Australia Institute.
