Dr Nathan Deutscher

Dr Nathan Deutscher is a Senior Lecturer at the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute in the Crawford School of Public Policy. He has pioneering research with Australian administrative data on topics in public finance, labour markets, and intergenerational mobility, including working with the Australian Taxation Office to produce Australia’s first intergenerational tax dataset. His research has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Economic LiteratureAmerican Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Journal of Public Economics and the Economic Record. Nathan joined the ANU from the Department of the Treasury in the Australian Government, where he led a team providing advice on data and productivity policy and drawing on novel microdata to inform economic and policy advice. Past roles include two years providing advice on tax and transfer policy in the Treasurer’s Office. He was awarded the Economics Society of Australia’s Young Economist Award in 2024 for his contributions to economic research and policy.
