Ana Stuparu
Qualifications
BBA (Northwood University), MIA (Australian National University), MA Strategy and Security (University of New South Wales)
After growing up in the Middle East, Ana obtained a dual major Bachelor degree in hospitality management and business administration from Hotel Institute Montreux (Switzerland) and Northwood University (USA). In 2009, Ana then moved to Australia and focused her postgraduate interests on international relations and security studies. In January 2016, she commenced her PhD at the National Security College, and is hoping to establish whether cyber security has more of an effect on a nation’s culture, or whether it is the other way around – provided there even is a general, common ground.

Topic title
Topic description
Culture can encompass a vast range of areas, such as history, politics, law, religion, economy, and identity, to name but a few. The way it relates to, and impacts/is impacted on by cyber security is a truly fascinating topic to explore. Current literature tends to focus on cyberspace as a whole, and its dialogue with various areas of culture, however, it does not render a clear picture and assessment of how security and culture specifically mix in cyberspace. Ana’s PhD research is aiming to provide a better understanding of how they affect each other, and which has a greater impact; findings could ultimately contribute to steering Australia’s internal policy on, and foreign approaches to, cyber governance.
