Dr Ryan Edwards is the Deputy Director of the Development Policy Centre at the Crawford School of Public Policy. He is the centre's lead on the Australian Government's Pacific Reseach program, where he is also the thematic research lead across the consortium on migration. His current ANU appointment is a Level C CCF, and by courtesy, he is also associated with the Migration Hub and the the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics at the ANU, and the MIT Poverty Action Lab and Innovations for Poverty Action. His research is at the intersection of labour economics, international trade, and the environment, and he mostly works in Indonesia, Australia, and the Pacific region.

Ryan returned to the ANU in June 2019 from academic appointments in the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College, where he taught courses in statistics and development economics, and at Stanford University, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Centre on Food Security and the Environment and the Department of Earth System Science. Ryan worked in the Australian Government—mostly on federal budgets, school funding reforms, and impact evaluation policy—international development, finance, and various other odd jobs before that.
