The project has made important innovations in the bioeconomics of marine reserves. Models have been developed that account for fixed costs of establishing marine reserves, account for commercial harvesting and non-market benefits, and also for the possibility of creating rolling reserves in a spatially explicit context. It is planned to use these models to develop a framework for analyzing the preferred location and duration of 'no take' zones.
