The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Cambodian government have just launched the 2019 National Human Development Report for Cambodia, entitled “Sustaining Natural Resources for All”.

The report is a product of many years’ work by researchers, UNDP staff and NGOs, with substantial input from The Crawford School’s Dr Sarah Milne. The report especially looks at how forest resources support livelihoods across the country, with key implications for equity, resilience and human well-being. A range of policy instruments are examined in the report including Payments for Environmental Services and Community-based Natural Resource Management.

The report was launched in the presence of nearly 100 government officials, where Cambodia’s Environment Minister hailed it as “key to national planning” (see recent article in the Phnom Penh Post. If Cambodia can follow the report’s recommendations, then it will be much better positioned to cope with climate change impacts, among other things.
