Banna Banik is a PhD candidate in Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy, The Australian National University (ANU). Her research focuses on energy economics, macroeconomics, and climate policy, with particular interests in energy price shocks, carbon markets, and decarbonisation.

Her current research examines the macroeconomic impacts of energy price shocks, particularly their effects on foreign exchange reserves and remittances. she also investigates the efficiency of carbon markets and the economic impacts of decarbonisation, with implications for climate and energy policy.

Banna is a Research Officer at the Centre for Climate and Energy Policy, where she contributes to policy research on Australia’s Safeguard Mechanism and other climate and energy policy initiatives.

She is also a Joint Director at Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, and is currently on study leave to pursue her PhD at ANU. At Bangladesh Bank, she has worked on banking sector liquidity, monetary policy, financial stability, and macroprudential regulation, and has conducted research on macroeconomic and financial sector policy.

She holds a Master of Economics from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), China, where she received the UIBE Most Outstanding Student Award. Her doctoral studies at ANU are supported by the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship.
