The ARC Asia Pacific Futures Research Network 2009 signature event was held at The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia on 19–20 November 2009 in partnership with LaTrobe University.

The conference explored the regional and global market integration in trade and industry in Asia Pacific in the context of major changes in the global economy and its historical, institutional and political economy aspects.

In particular the conference explored the following themes, with the participation of leading international scholars in each area:

  1. Historical perspectives on Trade and industry in Asia Pacific in the context of longer term shifts in the global economy
  2. Emerging trends in trade and industry in Asia Pacific, including the rise of China and India, focusing on the nexus between production fragmentation, global production networks and multinational corporations (MNCs)
  3. Political economy of trade, FDI and regional economic integration
  4. The impact of the global economic crisis on the Asia-Pacific economies.
