The Collaborative Research Grant (CRG) Workshop, co-hosted by the ANU Indonesia Project and the SMERU Research Institute, took place on 12–13 February 2025 at the Aryaduta Hotel in Jakarta. This workshop is part of the broader Indonesia Project initiative to identify and develop emerging Indonesian researchers, stimulate and foster relationships between Indonesian and Australian institutions, and contribute to important and high-quality research projects led by Indonesian researchers.

The first day featured presentations by recipients of the Indonesia Project and SMERU Collaborative Research Grants, who shared insights into their research projects and plans. Past CRG grantees also reflected on their experiences, highlighting key findings and successful publication outcomes. A notable presentation came from 2021–2022 CRG grantees, who discussed their paper, Young Citizens and Social Assistance Programs: The Effectiveness of Kartu Pra-Kerja (Pre-Employment Card), which was published at the Indonesia Council Open Conference 2023. Additionally, the CRG session facilitated policy dialogues with key policymakers and practitioners, emphasizing the significant contributions of CRG-supported research to academic discourse and policy development.

The second day centred on academic publishing and maximizing research impact. Firman Witoelar, Lead Editor of Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (BIES), provided practical guidance on submitting research for publication and insights into the peer review process. Heni Kurniasih, Senior Researcher at SMERU, offered strategies for expanding research reach beyond academia, underscoring the role of research in influencing policy and practice.

The workshop attracted a diverse group of researchers, doctoral students, and professionals, providing them with valuable opportunities to enhance their research dissemination skills and engage with leading experts in the field. By fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration, the CRG Workshop continues to play a crucial role in advancing impactful research in Indonesia.
