The Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) is an ongoing longitudinal household survey. The baseline sample is representative of about 83% of the Indonesian population and contains over 30,000 individuals living in 13 of the 34 provinces in the country. The Survey has been running for over two decades, with the most recent wave (IFLS5) fielded in 2014-15. The IFLS data sets are in the public domain, free of charge. There were about 8,000 registered users in 2016, and the data have been used in hundreds of PhD dissertations, masters theses and peer-reviewed journal articles.

Firman Witoelar Kartaadipoetra recently joined the ANU after ten years of experience working on the IFLS as one of its Co-Principal Investigators. In this seminar, he will provide extensive background information on the IFLS: its rationale and theoretical foundations, content, special features, how to access it, and so on.
