Join the National CGE Modelling Workshop at the Crawford School of Public Policy! The East Asian Bureau of Economic Research, ANU, and the Centre of Policy Studies, Victoria University, will convene the National CGE Modelling Workshop on 9–10 September at the Weston Theatre, Crawford School of Public Policy.

Jointly coordinated by Honorary Fellow Paul Gretton, ANU, and Professor Janine Dixon, Victoria University, this workshop will present the latest developments in the field of computable general equilibrium (CGE) and is an opportunity to hear about recent work. Participation is open to advanced and beginning computable general equilibrium (CGE) modellers, as well as interested observers from government, academia, consultancy and community groups.

SCHEDULE

The event will begin at 9am and end at 5pm on 9 and 10 September at Weston Theatre. The final schedule will be released once presentations are confirmed. This is a fully catered event.

Keynote Speaker: Dr Sergey Paltsev

We are proud to announce that Dr Paltsev will be joining us from Boston for this special event. Dr Paltsev is the Deputy Director of the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change and a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative. He leads the MIT Economic Projection and Policy Analysis (EPPA) model and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. His expertise spans energy economics, climate policy, transport, advanced energy technologies and international trade. Dr Paltsev’s insights will provide perspectives on global economic challenges and the future of economic modelling.

Workshop Hosts

This year’s workshop will be co-hosted by the Centre of Policy Studies, Victoria University — a specialist centre and software developer for CGE modelling — and the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research.

Paul Gretton is an Honorary Fellow with the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research, Crawford School of Public Policy and a senior research associate of the Centre of European Studies at the Australian National University. Paul is a former Assistant Commissioner at the Australian Productivity Commission where he led the Trade and Economic Studies branch. He was responsible for trade policy reviews, assessment of the impacts of national economic reforms, productivity reporting and quantitative economic modelling.

Professor Janine Dixon is Director of the Centre of Policy Studies (CoPS) at Victoria University. Prior to joining CoPS in 2007, she worked at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (1997-2002) where she was the manager of various surveys of the service industries in Australia. Dr Dixon’s interests include the theory and practical application of large scale dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) models. She has worked extensively with the Vic Uni, VUMR (formerly MMRF) and TERM models of the Australian economy, undertaking economic consultations for various public and private sector clients in Australian and internationally.
