A panel of academic and government speakers will lead a debate on renewing the federation, with plenty of time for questions and comments from the floor. The event will be chaired by Professor Miranda Stewart, Director of Tax and Transfer Policy Institute, Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU.

How best do we fund government services and public goods in a federal system, while ensuring economic prosperity across the nation?

Does Australia’s steep vertical fiscal imbalance matter? What are the solutions if so?

How should we address horizontal economic inequalities in our federation?

How can we reinvigorate State democratic processes while allowing innovation in policy?

This public forum is presented by the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute, Crawford School of Public Policy, at The Australian National University in partnership with the University of Melbourne, School of Government and The Conversation (www.theconversation.com ).
