With the assistance of a World Bank loan, the Indonesian Statistical System will go through a major upgrade commencing in 2011. I have working with the World Bank and the Indonesian Statistical Office (BPS) on the preparations for this very significant project, known as CERDAS. The talk will outline the planned improvements in Indonesian statistics and the underlying strategies to enable this to happen. A project of this size provides major management challenges, both to ensure developments proceed satisfactorily and that the improvements are maintained during the production phase. The talk will also discuss these management challenges and the changes BPS will need to make to address them.
