Title: Psychological factors predicting academic work engagement, performance and well-being in a public organisation

Abstract: After briefly presenting some information regarding my background, research perspective and current projects, I will describe a study I am about to commence exploring some of the psychological antecedents of work engagement, performance and well-being among early-career, mid-career and senior academics at the ANU. The research focuses upon ‘psychological flexibility’ . This is a complex construct that refers to a person’s capacity to attend to their immediate reactions to an event, remain open to the experience and make conscious choices to act in line with their values and principles rather than defensively. The planned research will test the proposition that psychological flexibility enhances work engagement, well-being and performance.
