This study analyses the factors affecting the participation of landlocked developing countries in global production networks. Using a gravity model covering 191 economies for 2000–2014, I find that being landlocked reduces a developing economy’s exports of parts and components by around 44% and of assembled products by around 59%. Landlocked developing countries can overcome their geographical disadvantage by improving transport links and adopting export-oriented stances.
