Hayley Henderson is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy. Her research is focused on collaboration in urban policymaking and governance, as well as the kinds of alliances created outside of government and their actions that sway public policy, from feminist social movements to coordinated business lobbying.

Her research is centred on Australian and Latin America cities. She is committed to building links with community partners through engaged research and her work often involves mixed and comparative methods. Recently she undertook research on the role of inclusion and cultural diversity in collaborative policymaking based on multiple global experiences, as well as on the challenges and opportunities for interjurisdictional governance of river basins in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Prior to commencing her PhD in 2014 (The University of Melbourne), Hayley worked for a decade as an urban planning practitioner in Australia and Argentina.

COVID-19 expertise

Hayley’s work is relevant to urban policymaking and research in a post COVID-19 context in terms of understanding the pathways to overcoming adversity (e.g. stimulating flagging retail) and realising new opportunities (e.g. designing new public space use) through collaboration, in particular as part of any planned regeneration or revitalisation programmes.
