Dr Fanaian is a research fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy, advancing research in water justice, environmental economics, and environmental governance. She is also supporting efforts to build dialogues among local stakeholders, decision-makers and researchers to build collective insights into ongoing water-related challenges. Her PhD research qualitatively and quantitively mapped urban water risks and their governance. She was an Oxford-Indira Gandhi Scholar at the Oxford-India Centre for Sustainable Development, Somerville College, University of Oxford. She is also the recipient of a National Geographic Explorer grant. Before her PhD, Dr. Fanaian worked with various development agencies for more than seven years to improve water security in South Asia.

Research interests

Water justice, environmental economics, environmental governance, machine learning and qualitative data analysis, studying urban rivers, exploring approaches for collective decision-making, and unpacking sustainable finance for the environment.
