Qualifications
PhD in Economics (Curtin University)
Toan is presently a Lecturer and Research Fellow at the Development Policy Centre and the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. Prior to this position, he held academic appointments in the University of Queensland and Curtin University, and was a software engineer before that. He is now an Associate Editor of the Asian Pacific Economic Literature.
Toan is a PhD labour and development economist. He is using the latest Australian administrative employer-employee matching and survey data to answer key questions at the intersection of migration, labour market and development policy in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. His current collaborative projects include (a) measuring the impacts of immigration on Australian workers and businesses, (b) understanding the assimilation dynamics of immigrants to Australia, (c) Australia’s first large scale migration attitudes survey, and (d) estimate the effects of internal migration on firms in Vietnam.
He has produced academic papers that have been published in highly ranking economic journals (European Economic Review, Health Economics, Demography, The World Economy, Journal of Population Research, Applied Spatial Analysis and Policy and Social Science and Medicine).
