I am an economist pursuing my PhD at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University (ANU), working on the economic impact of environmental issues on vulnerable populations in megacities of developing countries.

Prior to starting my doctoral studies, I worked at Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), where I actively participated in policy formulation and implementation, and was selected to be part of an Advanced Trade Policy course at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

I also worked as a Research Economist (Intern) for the Chief Economist Office at the International Trade Centre in Geneva, Switzerland between October 2016 and March 2017.

Regarding my PhD program at ANU, I also enjoy teaching courses in Econometrics, Economic Development, and Mathematical Methods in Applied Economics.

Topic title

The microeconomics of flooding

Topic description

I am working on environmental issues that have an economic impact on society at the household level. My first paper aims to determine the factors influencing index-based flood insurance in the case of Jakarta, Indonesia, which experiences annual flooding. The second paper aims to assess the impact of Peru’s 2017 flood on households by reproducing event-based flood simulations using the SWAT Model in ArcGIS to create a Flood Damage Index. It also utilises a 5-year panel data of socio-demographic information. The last paper involves data collection at the household level in Lima to gather information on socio-demographic and geographical characteristics, expectations of future mudslides/landslides, and willingness to pay for index insurance.

Supervisor (chair): Budy P. Resosudarmo Panel members: Ryan Edwards and Firman Kartaadipoetra
