Professor Paul Burke is Head of the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics (ACDE) and Deputy Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University. His research is in energy and environmental economics, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific.

Paul is a convener within the Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific initiative at ANU and is on the Executive Committee of the Australasian Development Economics Workshop (ADEW). He is program convener for the Master of International and Development Economics and Master of Environmental and Resource Economics, in addition to three Graduate Certificates.

Paul has published in journals including the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Economic Inquiry, Nature Geoscience, Nature Climate Change, Energy, and Global Environmental Change. Ongoing research topics include urban air pollution in Australia, EV promotion policies in China, and energy transition in South-East Asia. His publications are listed here.

Paul supervises students in the Crawford PhD in Economics. He has been Chair for five PhD graduates and a panel member for another 18. In 2024 he is convening IDEC7902 Graduate Preparatory Mathematical Methods and IDEC8029 Issues in Applied Microeconomics.
