Phd Study

The Policy and Governance Program is home to PhD candidates from Australia and around the world. Our PhD scholars bring diverse professional and educational backgrounds to their research. While diverse in disciplines, our PhD scholars are aligned in their interests to deliver high quality research that supports sound policy decision-making, evidence-based practice and societal benefits.

We encourage prospective PhD candidates to familiarise themselves with POGO academic staff to assess the fit of their research topic with current faculty interests and expertise. Please also view the admission and program requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy, Crawford School of Public Policy (PoGo). Further information about undertaking doctoral studies at the Crawford School can be found PhD programs.

Recommendations for program admission and PhD scholarships will be based both on merit (typically requiring a strong academic record as well as relevant research experience) and on the capacity of our Program’s academic staff to accommodate students’ specific research interests and projects.

PoGo PhD candidates gain access to a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community. Our program offers regular seminars, forums, webinars and other events within the broader opportunities available across the Crawford School.

PhD candidates are also welcome to access the benefits of PoGo coursework subjects to strengthen their knowledge of a critical discipline or methodological area and to assist them in the preparation of their PhD research proposal.

PoGo academics teach into the following major degree programs: the Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Administration, Graduate Certificate of Public Policy, Graduate Certificate of Public Management and Graduate Certificate of Policy Design and Analysis.
