Crawford School academics Professor Peter Drysdale, Dr Ann Nevile, Dr Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt and Dr Keith Barney have been awarded three high-profile Australian Research Council (ARC) linkage grants.

The ARC Linkage programs aim to help build partnerships between researchers and industry, government and community organisations as well as the international community.

The awards were announced today by the ARC.

Professor Peter Drysdale will undertake in-depth research to develop a better understanding of the growth of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) globally, with a particular focus on Australia.

The project - The growth of Chinese foreign direct investment and its impact on developed-country regulation and Chinese institutions - will aim to better improve Australia’s policy response to Chinese direct investment.

Dr Ann Nevile’s research project - Assessing performance: designing a better performance management framework for disability employment services - will assist in the development of a performance management framework for disability employment services. The research will improve the quality of employment outcomes and reduce the risk of social exclusion.

Dr Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt’s and Dr Keith Barney’s project Going for Gold: Safe livelihoods for informal gold miners in South and Southeast Asia will focus on communities, in mineral-rich areas of South and Southeast Asia, to explore how the livelihoods of the rural poor are changing in response to high gold prices.
