Calling all Crawford soccer enthusiasts; the Crawford School Students’ Association (CSSA) are dusting off their shin pads and mouth guards to go head-to-head in the school’s equivalent of the World Cup- the annual CSSA soccer tournament.

Last year’s soccer competition was a big success, and this year the CSSA decided to bring the event forward to this Saturday 6 September, to help those suffering from World Cup withdrawals.

CSSA soccer event skipper, Ashutosh Mani Dixit said he was looking forward to some friendly competition at Crawford School with staff and students set to show off their smooth soccer skills.

“The aim of the soccer event is to celebrate the connection between the association and Crawford School and enhance interactions between students and staff. It’s good to have people from different nations playing a friendly match and celebrating common successes,” said Dixit.

Kick off will be at 12pm with matches until 4pm. The CSSA will replenish and refuel players’ protein levels at a half time barbecue.

All Crawford students and staff are invited to join to try score the winning goal for their team. The current defending champions are the Policy and Governance program, but the trophy is up for grabs to any team before the final whistle

“With registrations almost full, the PhD and tutor team remains the only team unrepresented,” said Dixit.

Dixit said you don’t need to be Pele, Ronaldo or Messi to take part. He encouraged anyone and everyone to talk with their feet, play with their hearts and to bend it like Beckham.

“I am not good at soccer but enjoy playing. I try to give my best while playing for the fun of the game. I am in IDEC and I see the team is full of good soccer players this year, so I’ll probably end up on the bench, “ said Dixit.
